It wasn’t a terrific Tuesday for either the Los Angeles Angels or the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Angels opened a series with the Pittsburgh Pirates in Anaheim with a 9-3 loss to the visitors. They managed only five hits in the contest and their record fell to 11-11, good for fourth place in the tightly-packed American League West race.

Taylor Ward’s third-inning solo home run was the biggest hit for the Halos.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday with Ty Anderson (2-0) making the start for the home team.

The Dodgers were the victims of a stirring late rally and lost 11-10 to the Chicago Cubs in the Windy City. Trailing 10-7, the Cubs tied the game in the bottom of the ninth and won on a walk-off 10th-inning run-scoring single by Ian Happ.

With the loss, the Dodgers are 16-8 and remain in second place, a game behind the first-place San Diego Padres in the National League West.

The Blue Crew got three home runs: Tom Edman (his eighth), Andy Pages (third) and Will Smith (his third).

They’ll play again on Saturday.
