Former Garden Grove city councilmember and Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do was sentenced Monday to five years in federal prison for his involvement in a bribery scandal.

Do, 62, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of conspiracy to commit bribery. He was involved in voting to direct more than $10 million to the Viet America Society, where his daughter Rhiannon was employed.

The money was supposed to go to provide meals to elderly Vietnamese residents during the COVID-19 pandemic, but most of it went to Do’s family, according to federal prosecutors.

All told, the family was the recipient of over $700,000 in bribes and Do’s daughter bought a home in Tustin valued at $1 million.

Trump and Gov. Gavin Newsom exchanged harsh words. The president threatened to arrest Newsom for “obstructing” immigration enforcement. The governor replied, “Come after me, arrest me. Let’s just get it over with, tough guy.”
