A proposal to create a non-profit “public benefit” foundation to support Westminster’s annual Tet Parade goes before the Westminster City Council when it meets Wednesday evening.
What’s proposed is to create a seven-member board of directors composed of members chosen by the city council, with each councilmember appointing one. There would be no “seed money” for the foundation, but the cost of creating the non-profit corporation – estimated at $5,000 – would be paid by the city, which would later be reimbursed.
In recent years, the organizers of the parade – held along Bolsa Avenue in the Little Saigon area of the city – have struggled to raise enough money to cover the costs of the event.
A name for the organization would need to be chosen, but many of the potential names – such as “Tet Parade Foundation” and “Little Saigon – Westminster Tet Parade” have already been registered with the California Secretary of State.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 8200 Westminster Blvd., following a closed session at 5 p.m.
