Monday’s meeting in the Oval Office between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy struck some cordial tones, perhaps raising hopes that a conclusion to the Russia-Ukraine War – begun three-and a-half years ago – could be reached.

President Trump. according to the Associated Press, said that the U.S would b willing to back offers by European allies to “police” a peace deal.

While the U.S. might not be willing to directly enforce a deal, it might be willing to otherwise support such an arrangement.

Russia has expressed opposition to NATO membership for Ukraine or a return of Crimea to Ukraine.

Ukraine is unwilling to “trade land for peace” by allowing Russia to keep the ground it now holds in Ukraine.
