Thursday night was a rough evening for local teams.
In a contest between the teams expected to be the top two in the Alpha League, Los Alamitos (now 8-0) defeated Edison (5-3) by 41-22.
The Chargers got off to a fast star t, rolling up a 16-0 lead, but the rest of the game – played at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood – went to the Griffins.
A turning point was a blocked field goal attempt by Edison which would have given the green-and-gold a 19-14 lead was returned to the 2-yard line from where LA scored to take a lead they would not given up.
Edison’s Sam Thomson passed for 311 yards and two scores.
Garden Grove, playing without star running back Quentin Pacelli, lost 41-22 to Brea Olinda in the Kappa League opener.
The Argonauts (2-6 overall) did get an outstanding performance from Calvin Keovphan, who passed for 145 yards. and three scores. He was intercepted twice.
Huntington Beach (71, 3-0) kept pace in first place in the Epsilon League with Crean Lutheran with a 21-14 win over Foothill. The Oilers and the Saints (8-0, 3-0) will likely meet for the title next Friday.
La Quinta (3-4-1, 0-3) dropped to the bottom of the Tango League with a 27-12 loss to Loara (2-6, 1-2).
Los Amigos (4-4, 1-2) is fourth in the Sigma League after falling 21-14 to Estancia (5-3, 1-2).
Pacifica (5-3, 3-0) defeated Buena Park 49-13 and remain tied with the Portola Patriots (5-3, 3-0) for the Omicron League lead. The two will meet on Oct. 30, probably for the crown.
Ocean View (6-2, 2-1) slipped out of the Sigma League lead after losing 43-21 to Calvary Chapel/Santa Ana.
Westminster (3-5, 1-2) is in a three-way tie for third place in the Kappa League with St.Margaret’s and Esperanza in the after a 35-14 loss to Segerstrom.
