The fate of the Westminster Rose Center might be settled – or delayed– at Wednesday night’s meeting of the Westminster City Council.
On the agenda is an update on the selection of a “venue operator” for the Rose Center, a 419-seat theatre plus ballroom located in the Civic Center.

Some members of the council want to change the current operator – Friends of the Rose Center (Friends of the Abbey Centre) – and transition the facility to more of a “multicultural center.”

That would involve issuing a request for proposals for the “new” Rose Center. But also on the agenda is consideration of a three-month extension of the term of agreement for the Friends of Rose Center to continue to use that facility.

Also on the agenda is re-consideration of general text and land use amendments emphasizing “mixed-use” development.

It was initially on the agenda at the April 8 meeting, but no vote could be taken because of the lack of a quorum8

The council will meet in a special meeting at 3:30 p.m. a closed session at 4 p.m. and the open session at 6 p.m. in its chambers at 8200 Westminster Blvd.
