On Monday night in Cleveland, the Los Angeles Angels outhit the host Guardians nine to seven but couldn’t convert enough of them into runs, losing 7-2 in the first game of a three-game series.

The loss kept the Halos in last place in the American League West with a 16-26 record, sharing it with the Houston Astros (16-26).

Jo Adell continued to shine for the Angels, batting 2-for-4 with a run batted in to raise his average to .279. But that hardly mattered because after three innings, the Guardians had a 7-0 lead.

Angel starter Brent Suter (1-2) lasted just 1.2 innings. He yielded two hits and two earned runs, striking out one batter and walking another. The third reliever, Alek Manoah, had a better day, pitching the last five innings, giving up two hits and no runs. He struck out two batters but walked five.

Giants 9, Dodgers 3. For most of this still-young 2026 MLB season, the two teams have dwelt at different ends of the National League West. But things are starting to change.

The slumping Dodgers (24-17) have dropped from first into second and the Giants (17-24) have escaped the cellar and moved into fourth place.

Rafael Devers homered and batted 2-for-3 with three runs scored, two runs  knocked in and two walks to lead the winning team. Willy Adames was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.

As a team, San Francisco was 5-for-17 with runners in scoring position.

For LAD, Max Muncy had the best night, going 2-for-4 with his 11th homer of the year. Freddie Freeman was 2-for-4 with a double and a single.

The two teams will continue the series on Tuesday.
