Pacifica and La Quinta high schools will get new gymnasiums as part of $10.6 million in earthquake mitigation grants from the State Allocation Board.
The two schools in the Garden Grove Unified School District were designed and constructed in the early to mid-Sixties on the same plan.
State Sen. Janet Nguyen (R-Garden Grove) helped direct the money to the GGUSD in her position on the board. Funding for the construction comes from Proposition 51, a school bond approved by voters in November 2016.
The Pacifica seismic mitigation grant is for $5.25 million and the LQHS grant is for $5.4 million. The new construction should be completed by 2021.
Public hearing on GGUSD budget
A public hearing on the proposed budget for 2018-29 for the Garden Grove Unified School District will be held at Tuesday’s meeting of the Board of Education.
Also on Tuesday, Kelly McAmis, assistant superintendent of secondary education, will make a presentation on Simon Scholars.
The board meets at 7 p.m. at 10331 Stanford Ave. in Garden Grove. The district serves most of Garden Grove and portions of Anaheim, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Santa Ana, Stanton and Westminster.
