Loara and Rancho Alamitos kept pace in the Garden Grove League baseball race with victories on Tuesday.
Rancho Alamitos (5-1 in league, 7-5 overall) defeated Santiago 5-0 to remain a half-game behind Loara (5-0, 6-5), which beat Bolsa Grande 17-0.
For the Vaqueros, Nathan Alcaron again stood out on the mound and at bat. As a pitcher, he threw a seven-inning shutout. In the batter’s box, he went 4-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and an RBI.
Teammate Manny Aguilar was for 3-for-4 against the Matadors with a double, a run scored and two RBIs.
For the Saxons, Patrick Monroe struck out 15 batters. He gave up just one hit and one walk. At bat, he was 3-for-3 with four RBIs.
Loara and Rancho will meet on March 26 and 28.
In softball action, La Quinta beat Los Amigos 13-2 in the GGL opener for both teams. Ali Guzman struck out five batters and gave up four hits and no earned runs. Thalina Niang had two hits for LQ with three RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base.
Both teams are 6-2 overall, with the Aztecs 1-0 and the Lobos 0-1.
