Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday declared a partial call-up of military reserve forces to replace losses in the war with Ukraine, but the move was greeted with protests and arrests.

According to the Associated Press, as many as 1,200 people were detained by police as demonstrations were reported across the Russian Federation.

All flights leaving Russia were quickly sold out in what appears to be an effort to avoid having to serve in a war that has resulted in frustration and setbacks for Russia and unexpectedly high casualties.

At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy vowed that his forces would reclaim all of its land. “We can return the Ukrainian flag to our entire country.We can do it with the force of arms,” he said. “But we need time.”

Justice Department wins a round

The federal Department of Justice can go back to using “classified” documents seized from former president Donald Trump’s estate.

According to The New York Times, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit vacated an order by a Florida federal judge that had shielded about 100 files that the DOJ was using to investigate whether Trump has broken the law by keeping the documents after leaving office.

Sports: Angels lose to Rangers

In the battle for third place in the American League West, the Los Angeles Angels lost 7-2 to the Texas Rangers on Wednesday, slicing their lead over the Rangers to one-half game.

Shohei Ohtani had two of the Angels five hits and Taylor Ward drove in both Halo runs with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. It was his 19th of the season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are playing the Arizona Diamondbacks. Final results will be posted later.

Weather: Summer makes a comeback

It’s officially autumn, but summer heat is refusing to leave. The National Weather Service is forecasting rising temperatures for the West Orange County area reaching into the 90s. There will be sunny weather into the weekend and well into next midweek. Thursday’s daytime high is predicted to hit 84 (65 over night), followed by 89 (67) on Friday and 89 (68) on Saturday. Sunday could reach 90.
