Starting up a charity can be expensive.

A sum of $20,000 to $25,000 initial start-up costs for a Westminster Community Foundation will be considered at the Wednesday, Oct. 11 meeting of the Westminster City Council.

According to a staff report, the mission of the foundation will be to eventually become self-supporting, a budget increase from the general fund reserves would pay for “initial expenses in website/branding, marketing, software purchases and to help provide the resources necessary to help them organize their first fundraising event(s).”

In a related item, the council will consider two appointments to the foundation, as two members have resigned.

The appointments would be made by Councilmembers Carlos Manzo (District 2) and Amy Phan West (District 1),

The council will meet in its chambers at 8200 Westminster Blvd. in closed session at 5 p.m. and in open session at 6 p.m.

  1. So the city gets to waste money on a foundation that has a number of members who don’t even live in Westminster? What a racket…
