Gaza hospitals facing crisis

DAMAGE FROM air strikes in Gaza (Wikipedia).

Hospitals in Gaza are overflowing with wounded people and many could die if food, water and more medical supplies are not provided.

That’s what The New York Times is reporting on Sunday. The blockade imposed by Israel since the outbreak of war between the Hamas militants and Israeli forces has squeezed the supply of items of necessity, including fuels to provide heating, light and transportation.

A total of 2,670 Palestinians have been killed and 9,600 hurt since the fighting began when Hamas forces attacked nine days ago. An estimated 1,300 Israelis have died.

The Israeli government is vowing to destroy Hamas and assume authority over the area, located at the south on the border withe Egypt.

Iran warns of a wider war

The death of Palestinian civilians could prompt a “wider war”in the Middle East, Iranian leaders warned on Sunday.

According to United Press International, at issue are retaliations by Israeli forces against Hamas rocket fire and raids.  Air attacks on residential areas of Gaza have killed thousands, including those seeking to flee the war-torn area.

Israelis counters that many – if not most – of the rockets fired at them are launched from such districts.
