Hospital is focus of fighting

A WOUNDED man is taken to a hospital in Gaza City (Wikipedia).

Fighting continues to rage in the Gaza Strip as each side trades accusations on Sunday.

Palestinians say that people are trapped inside Gaza’s biggest hospital and cannot escape, while Israel claims it is helping to evacuate babies and other patients. Each side claims the other is lying.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeated his stand that he would not agree to a cease-fire until Hamas militants agree to release all of the hostages – estimated at around 240 –taken by Hamas at the beginning of the conflict on Oct. 7.

Fighting is said to be continuing right outside of Shifa Hospital.

U.S. air strikes hit Iran forces

American jets attacked several buildings in eastern Syria on Sunday, responding in what Defense Department officials say is retaliation for attacks against U.S forces in Iraq and Syria.

The attacks are allegedly by Iranian Revolutionary Guards. The fighters are reported to have hit buildings in Abu Kamal in eastern Syria that the Pentagon claims are used for storing munitions and as a command post.

Sports: Chargers lose in last second

A 41-yard field goal as time expired lifted the Detroit Lions to a 41-38 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.

Quarterbacks Justin Herbert (Chargers) and Jared Goff (Lions) conducted an epic duel. Herbert passed for 423 yards and four TDs, while Goff threw for 333 yards and two scores.

The Chargers are now 4-5 while the Lions are 7-2.

AP FOOTBALL POLL: The Georgia Bulldogs (10-0) are atop the  AP College Football Top 25 for the 22nd consecutive week.

The rest of the top five are Michigan (10-0, second), Ohio State (10–0, third), Florida State (10-0, fourth) and Washington (10-0 fifth). 

Both USC and UCLA dropped out of the top 25. Pac-12 teams that made it (in addition to Washington) are Oregon (9-1, sixth), Oregon St. (8-2, 10th), Utah (7-3, 15th), and Arizona (7-3, 19th).

Weather: Rise and slide

The forecast for the coming week for our West Orange County is for warm weather followed by a descent into chillier days with rain and thunder.

Monday is expected to have an afternoon high of 76 with an overnight low of 49. There should be morning clouds and afternoon sun. Tuesday should be warm with partly cloudy skies; a high of 80 and a low of 53. The thermometer takes a dip to 73 (60) with afternoon showers on Wednesday and Thursday may bring scattered thunderstorms and 71 (56).
