The uproar started when the Dodgers fired Ippel Mizuhara, who has served as Ohtani’s interpreter. The cause was that he – Mizuhara – had paid $4.5 to a Japanese bookie.

Conflicting stories soon emerged that Mizuhura had either stolen the money from Ohtani or had received it from him to help cover his debts.

Later it was revealed that Mizhura had lied about his education – he never attended or graduated from UC Riverside, as claimed – and previous employment as a interpreter for two other MLB clubs.

Ohtani played against the San Diego Padres in an exhibition game on Thursday and was in the lineup for Sunday’s exhibition game against the Los Angeles Angels.
