Blue Crew bats had no steel in Pittsburgh, lose 1-0 to Pirates

By Arthur David/Orange County Tribune

It was an old-fashioned pitching duel in Pittsburgh Tuesday night when one very good performance was topped by a slightly better one.

Tyler Glasnow (6-4) turned in another sharp effort, working six innings for the Los Angeles Dodgers and yielding just three hits while striking out nine batters and walking only two.

But the thing that separated him from Pirates’ ace Jared Jones (six innings, three hits) was the third inning solo home run by Jack Suwinski that gave the home team the 1-0 win.

The Blue Crew (38-24) stayed solidly in first place in the National League West., seven games ahead of the San Diego Padres (32-32) who lost 4-2 to the Los Angeles Angels.

Despite the loss, Glasnow had a few things to smile about. He now has 100 strikeouts in 2024, a feat that no Dodger has achieved this early since it was done by Clayton Kershaw.

Additionally, it was a trip back to Steeltown, to face the team that had drafted him six years ago.
“It was cool,” said Glasnow. “A familiar feeling. I hadn’t been back in a while.”

The Dodgers will be back in PNC Park on Wednesday with James Paxton (5-0) getting the start.
