Westminster police are warning members of the public to be wary of suspects who claim to be immigration officials as a cover for committing robberies.

According to the WPD, there have been two such incidents in the city, one on Saturday, June 15 and another on Wednesday, June 19.

The first one took place at around 12:30 p.m. in the area of Newland Street and Westminster Boulevard. A male adult bicyclist was approached by two adults in a blue sport utility vehicle. They stopped the cyclist and – claiming to be undercover immigration agents – demanded that he give them money or be deported. After taking the money, the suspects left the scene eastbound on Westminster Boulevard.

The second incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when a second male adult victim was walking through a parking lot in the 14000 block of Magnolia Street (south of Westminster Boulevard). He was approached by two suspects in a blue SUV who claimed to be immigration agents; one of them could possibly be wearing a replica ICE (Immigration  and Customs Enforcement) badge.

The victim told police he could see a black pistol “in plain view” on the center console of the vehicle.

The suspects demanded the victim’s wallet and took an undisclosed amount of cash and then drove away.

The suspects are described as:

  • a male Hispanic, 25-30, 5-foot, 6 inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes;
  • a male Hispanic, 25-30, 5-foot, 4-inches tall, 210 lb, black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call Detective Sam Gradilla at (714) 548-3778.
