Homeless emergency action?

How bad is the homeless problem in Stanton? So acute that the city council is again considering a resolution declaring a local emergency caused by a homeless crisis. Despite numerous efforts and considerable expense, Stanton has experienced an increase of 138 percent from 2019 to 2014 of homelessness, according to county of Orange statistics.

The number of unsheltered people in Stanton has risen from 71 in 2019 to 169 in 2024.

Homeless people are more likely to be substance abusers and have developmental disabilities. Fentanyl is blamed for the increase in accidental deaths, according to a staff report.
The declaration of an emergency gives the city the power to act as if a natural or manmade disaster had struck the community.

Help is on the way.

On Tuesday, the city council will consider awarding a construction for a citywide street resurfacing project to R.J. Noble Company in the amount of $1,224,741.77.

The work to be done is the repair, maintenance and minor alterations of existing streets, sidewalks gutters and similar facilities.

The council will convene at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall, 7800 Katella Ave.
