A new foundation to support the city’s annual Tet Parade was approved by the Westminster City Council on Wednesday night.

The council voted 5-0 to have the city attorney file the appropriate paperwork with the California Secretary of State for the creation of a non-profit “public benefit” foundation.

The suggested name for the new entity would be the Westminster Tet Parade Foundation.

A seven-member board of directors will be created, composed of members chosen by the city council, with each councilmember appointing one. There would be no “seed money” for the foundation, but the cost of creating the non-profit corporation – estimated at $5,000 – would be paid by the city, which would later be reimbursed.

In recent years, the organizers of the parade – held along Bolsa Avenue in the Little Saigon area of the city – have struggled to raise enough money to cover the costs of the event.
