The New York Times reports that the vote was 218 in favor and 214 opposed. All 212 Democrats voted against the bill (along with two Republicans). while 218 Republicans supported it.

The Times describes the bill as legislation which will extend tax cuts and make major cuts in the social safety net for the needy.

Trump has begun a campaign to rally public support for the bill, which has proven controversial and barely passed both houses of Congress, where his party hold narrow margins.

“Very simply the One Big, Beautiful Bill will deliver the strongest border on Earth, the strongest economy on Earth, the strongest military on Earth and ensure the United States of America will remain the strongest country anywhere on this beautiful planet of ours,” Trump said at a rally in Iowa.
