The Angels and the Dodgers are at opposite ends of the baseball ladder, but you wouldn’t have known it from Friday night’s tense deadlock at Dodger Stadium.
Through eight innings not a run was scored and there were only two hits for each team.
But the drama couldn’t last forever and Freddie Freeman sent everyone back to the dugouts in the bottom of the ninth with a walkoff home run and a 1-0 Dodger win.
Each team got excellent performances from their starters. Roki Sasaki struck out 10 Angels batters over seven two-hit innings. Reid Detmers was almost as good as the Angels starter, working six innings and giving up three hits, while striking out six Dodgers.
Each pitcher walked two batters.
For the Dodgers, the win gave them a 41-23 record, good for a 7.5-game lead in the National League West. The Angels are 24-40 and in fifth and last place place in the American League West.
The two teams will play again on Saturday and Sunday.
