A mixed report on pandemic

Saturday’s report on the coronavirus pandemic in Orange County was a mix of good and bad news. Two metrics declined and two rose.

According to the county health care agency, new cases rose to 3,454 from 3,158 on Friday. Patients in intensive care units climbed to 542, compared to 534.

However, deaths fell to 43 from 82 on Friday and hospitalizations were 2,065, compared to 2,101 the day before.

The cumulative total of COVID-19 cases in Orange County is now at 209,365, of which 135,203 are considered recovered. Total deaths to date are at 2,320.

  • Santa Ana: 38,283 (436)
  • Anaheim: 35,299 (469)
  • Garden Grove: 13,397 (162)
  • Orange: 9,874 (117)
  • Fullerton: 9,339 (155)
  • Huntington Beach: 8,466 (120)

Westminster has 5,748 cases and 74 deaths. Stanton has 2,632 cases and 28 deaths.

Worldwide, the number of cases has reached 94,295,595, according to Johns Hopkins University. Deaths are at 2,019.970.

In the United States, cases have totaled 23,723,348. Deaths are at 395,379.
