A 68-year-old Huntington Beach man died after a traffic collision in Huntington Beach on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the HBPD, the incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on Atlanta Avenue at Bushard Street and involved a gray Mercedes Benz GLC and a silver Toyota Corolla.
Arriving officers found the driver of the Corolla in serious condition. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead there.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 23-year-old man, and two adult passengers were taken to a local hospital with “minor injuries.” The driver of of the GLC cooperated with investigators, who don’t believe that impairment was a factor. It’s unknown if impairment on the part of the Corolla’s driver was a factor.
Police say that their preliminary investigation indicated that the Corolla was traveling southbound on Bushard Street and entered the intersection at Atlanta Avenue against a red light. The GLC was moving westbound on Atlanta and entered the intersection on a green light, at which point the vehicles collided.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the events leading up to it is encouraged to contact HBPD Traffic Investigator Doug Demetre at (714) 536-5670.
