Biden: Israel, Ukraine aid vital

PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN (YouTube).

President Joe Biden’s televised address to the nation on Thursday declared that America’s support for Ukraine and Israel remains important as both nations struggle in separate wars.

“History has taught us when terrorists don’t pay a price for their terror, when dictators don’t pay a price for their aggression, they cause more chaos and death and more destruction,” said Biden.

He wants to spend $105 billion including $60 billion for Ukraine, $14 billion for Israel and $10 billion for humanitarian work, probably in the Middle East.

The U.S. is “a beacon to the world,” he said.

Another speaker vote on Friday?

Both sides appear to be digging in on Jim Jordan’s efforts to become the next Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Jordan (R-Ohio) has fallen short in previous efforts to gain the post, which typically goes to the leader of the majority party in the lower house of Congress, which is the Republicans.

However, after Jordan led a successful effort to oust Kevin McCarthy (R-California) he has been unable to unite his party, which holds a slim edge over Democrats. They vote unanimously for their leader and Republicans remain split.

Another vote is scheduled for Friday at 10 a.m. Eastern (7 a.m. Pacific).
