The persistent problem of homeless people camping, sleeping, sitting and standing on public property is addressed in a proposed second reading and adoption on an ordinance that goes before the Westminster City Council when it meets on Wednesday.
Under the amended ordinance, regulations will be established on unlawful camping and prohibiting the use of the public right-of-way and facilities for storage of personal items or as a place to sit, sleep or lie down.
If approved , it would go into effect in 30 days.
Also on the agenda is the second reading and adoption of an ordinance regulating electronic billboards near freeways. The council approved the ordinance March 26 on a 3-2 vote. At issue were regulating the distance between billboards and requiring applicants to justify the height of a proposed electronic billboard.
The council will meet in open session at 6 p.m. in its chambers at 8200 Westminster Blvd.
