Both games were close and exciting, but only one local team came away with a win on Friday night.
Athletics 12, Angels 11: The Los Angeles Angels built an early 11-4 lead at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento but what looked like a blowout turned into a heartbreak.
The home ream rallied for eight runs, grabbing the winning score in a wild 10th inning. Two stolen bases, a hit batsman and a walk gave the A’s a stunning victory.
Home runs –five of them – weren’t enough. Logan O’Hoppe had the best night at bat for the Halos, going 3-for-4 (including a homer)with three RBIs and a run scored.
But the Angel pitching let down the side. Jose Soriano lasted five innings, giving up six hits and four runs. He struck out six batters but walked four.
The Angels are now 30-47 and last in the AL West; the A’s squared their record at 38-38 and in second.
Dodgers 6, Orioles 5: A three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Blue Crew to a dramatic win at Chavez Ravine.
Dalton Rushing’s line drive single brought in two runners and a throwing error brought in the third for the win.
Mookie Betts was hot, batting 3-for-5, including a ninth inning home run that set the table for the dramatic rally.
Tommy Edman was 3-for-5; the Dodgers totaled 12 hits.
Starter Roki Sasaki had an uneven night, working 5.2 innings while giving up four hits (including two home runs) and three runs. He struck out six batters and walked one.
The Dodgers are 49-27 and remain in first place by 9.5 games in the National League West.
