The count of confirmed new cases of coronavirus in Orange County continue to rise and fall.
Friday’s report from the county health care agency – which covers May 10-12 – showed 1,733 new cases, which averages to 578. That’s a sharp increase from the previous report on Tuesday, which showed 432 new cases (on daily average) and the previous Friday’s daily average of 460.
However, hospitalizations declined from 103 to 83 and the number of patients being treated for COVID-19 in intensive care units stayed steady at 17.
To date, Orange County has had 559,071 cases of coronavirus. Of that number, 542,542 are considered recovered, and 7,023 deaths have been recorded.
Nationally, The New York Times is reporting that – over a 14-day period – new cases are up 59 percent while deaths are down 4 percent. Hospitalizations are up 20 percent.
In California, new cases have rise by 22 percent over a similar period but deaths are down 19 percent, reports Los Angeles Times.
