Ukraine will receive another $1.3 billion worth of weapons and equipment from the United States as the war with Russia continues.
United Press International is reporting that the package contains a variety of supplies, including surface-to-air missiles, trucks, drones, munitions and training.
Termed the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, the aid will come from manufacturers and ally nations, rather than drawing down on U.S military stockpiles.
Among the key assistance is F-16 fighter jet training by Denmark and Netherlands, according to U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
Chinese will set own climate pace
Leaders of the People’s Republic of Chinese rebuffed American efforts to coordinate action to battle climate change on Wednesday.
The New York Times reports that after a meeting with John Kerry, the U.S. climate envoy, Chinese President Xi Jin Ping gave a speech in which he insisted that China would work to phase out carbon dioxide pollution on its terms and schedule.
“It is clear that we are going to need a little more work,” said Kerry
Questions about dash into N. Korea
Many questions remain as to why Pvt. Travis King, a U.S. Army soldier ran across the border into North Korea.
The Associated Press reports that King was facing disciplinary action from the army. His maternal grandmother told the AP, “I can’t see him doing that intentionally if he was in his right mind.”
He had just been released from serving almost two months in a South Korean prison and was facing discharge from the army.
