League play will kick off

MOST LOCAL football league will start this week (Shutterstock).

It’s whole new world.

With the arrival of the ultimate version of “competitive equity,” high school football has been shook up, turned over and tossed up like pizza dough.

The old leagues – some of which are more than a century old – have largely been ash-canned in favor of a new set of names (a mixture of the Greek alphabet and NATO radio letters) intended to level the proverbial playing field.

Most of the leagues will begin conference play this week, although the four-team Alpha League (Edison) won’t begin until  Oct. 18. Here’s what the schedule looks like for teams serving our West Orange County cities of Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.  As always dates, locations, times, etc. are subject to change without notice. All games are set for 7 p.m. on Friday, unless otherwise noted.
