If you’re an Angels fan thirsty for some good news after the 2-1 loss to the New York Yankees at the Big A on Sunday …
The one that finished a three-game sweep. That meant the Angels have gone from a 13-3 start to a 16-12, and from first place in the American League West to third and fading fast.
Consider this. The Yankees are the hottest team in baseball, having won nine in a row. Although the Angels were swept, the first and third games were decided by one run.
On Sunday, the margin of defeat was a two-run home run by Gary Sanchez in the top of the fourth off Tyler Skaggs. The Angels answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth when Justin Upton scored on a wild pitch, but couldn’t do much against Yankee starter CC. Sabathia, who worked seven innings, striking out four and walking one. Angel starter Skaggs (3-2) did well, striking out eight and walking two.
Another highlight was Albert Pujols’ 2,996th career hit, a blooper to left center field.
Hoping to find some success at home, the Halos will host the Baltimore Orioles (8-20) on Tuesday after taking Monday off.
