A’s over Dodgers; Halos fall late

BOTH the Angels and the Dodgers lost on Tuesday night.

The Los Angeles Angels lost late and the Los Angeles Dodgers’ fate was sealed early on Tuesday night.

Two-run rallies in the eighth and ninth innings allowed the San Diego Padres to catch and pass the Halos for a 6-4 victory for the home team at Petco Park and close to within a half-game of the lead in the National League West race.

As for the Blue Crew, they never led and were hammered 11-1 at Chavez Ravine by the Athletics.

The Angels got home runs from Zach Neto and Matthew Lugo to build a 4-2 lead going into the final two innings. But the Padres scored twice in the eighth to tie the game at 4-all, and Fernando Tatis settled it with a two-run walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth.

The Dodgers’ sole run was on a pair of errors in the bottom of the third.

In losing to the Padres, the Angels wasted a good start by Jose Soriano, who pitched seven shutout innings. He yielded only four hits and struck out five batters. At bat, Nolan Schanuel was 3-for-4 with one run scored.

At Dodger Stadium, Will Smith was 3-for-4. Starter Landon Knack was touched for seven hits and five earned runs in 4.2 innings. He struck out eight A’s.
